What does the name “chronomat” mean?

In 2002, Breitling designers gave the iconic Chronomat a contemporary and refreshed form, while ensuring that it retains all the distinctive features and spirit of the watch. The appearance of the new Chronomat closely resembles that of 1984.

The most noticeable element is the characteristic Rouleaux bracelet (French for ‘shaft’), whose satin-polished links have the shape of small shafts. The case’s revolving bezel has protruding tabs that make it easier to handle. As in the original, the tabs at 3 and 9 o’clock are movable, so the user can use them for “counting” or “counting down” functions.
We cannot forget about the characteristic dial, which uses the classic tri-compax system – three subdials set at 12:00, 3:00 (30-minute counter), 6:00 (12-hour counter) and 9:00 (small second).
Inside each watch of this line there is the in-house fake breitling Manufacture Caliber 01 movement known from other Breitling models, which provides an impressive power reserve of 70 hours.
The arms of the Chronomat B01 42 are coated with Super-LumiNova®, a luminescent material that improves readability in all lighting conditions. All models except the Chronomat Frecce Tricolori Limited Edition have a red stopwatch second hand, which significantly improves legibility.
The COSC certificate confirms the precision and reliability of the Chronomats’ operation. All models are water resistant to 20 bar (200 meters).
